VIT University trustee moves HC alleging irregularities

A member of the trust governing the private Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) University has moved the Madras High Court seeking to appoint an interim administrator to oversee the trust, alleging several irregularities in the functioning of the renowned institution.
Trustee G V Sampath, also son of VIT Founder-Chancellor G Viswanathan, in his petition alleged huge funds of another trust were syphoned and students to the Chennai campus were admitted without necessary approval and collection of huge amounts by way of fees.
Sampath also claimed that government land had been encroached by the Vellore-based university and buildings constructed without approval. Besides there was secrecy in maintaining the accounts of the trust, he submitted.

He alleged that the office premises from where he functioned as a trustee and as Vice-President has been locked and prevented from discharging his duties after he cautioned and advised against several irregularities.
The petitioner prayed the court to appoint an advocate commissioner to go into all irregularities and access to the accounts by an independent auditor.
When the matter came up for hearing today before Justice R Sudhakar, senior counsel representing VIT submitted that Sampath and another person R Sadanandam have not been removed from the post of trustees and there would be no obstruction for them in performing their duties.

The judge, recorded the submission and posted the matter for further hearing to August 13.
