Senior IPS officer Vivek Srivastava's tenure has been extended till October next year in the post of Inspector General in the Special Protection Group (SPG).
Srivastava, a 1989-batch IPS officer of Gujarat cadre, was in December last year inducted into SPG on deputation from the Intelligence Bureau.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved an extension for Srivastava till October 6, 2016, said an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training.
He will be reporting back to the IB after completion of his extended tenure.
Srivastava, the senior-most IPS officer in the SPG, is also holding charge of the post of chief of the elite force, which guards the Prime Minister and some other VVIPs.
SPG is at present operating without a regular chief after K Durga Prasad, a 1981-batch Andhra Pradesh-cadre IPS officer, was moved out on November 25 last year.
