Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today greeted the people of the state on the beginning of fasting month of Ramzan which starts tomorrow.
In his message, the Governor hoped that this auspicious occasion would be a harbinger of peace, amity, communal harmony, brotherhood, progress and prosperity.
"The holy month of Ramzan is a period dedicated to fasting, service and prayers and highlights the values of patience, self-restraint, tolerance and austerity, which promote feelings of compassion and respect for others," Vohra said.
Omar in his message hoped that the holy month will be harbinger of well-being, progress and prosperity for the mankind.
He prayed for peace and development of the state and the country, an official spokesman said.
The Chief Minister said that the holy month provides us an occasion to seek Allah's munificence and forgiveness.
"This is the opportunity for the subjects of Allah to re-dedicate themselves as His true faithful by observing fast, offering prayers till late night, extending compassion and kindness to people and showing highest degree of tolerance not only in respect of eating food and drinking water but by renunciation of all activities leading to sin and harming humanity," he said.
