Voters strength increases by 1.35 percent in Puducherry

: The voters strength in the Union territory of Puducherry has increased by 1.35 per cent and the final electoral rolls brought out at the end of the special summary revision has said there are 9,08,821 voters now.
Women voters continue to exceed their male counterparts.
Chief Electoral Officer of Puducherry T.Sreekanth said in a release today that the special summary revision of rolls was conducted between October 15 and November 11, 2014, keeping Jan 1, 2015 as the qualifying date as per instructions of the Election Commission in all 30 assembly constituencies.
Puducherry has 23 constituencies, Karaikal five and Mahe and Yanam one each.

The Union Territory had a strength of 8,96,636 voters (4,29,075 men, 4,67,541 women and 20 voters coming under 'third gender') before summary revision.
Of the total of 9,08,821 voters now the Union Territory has 4,74,683 women voters against 4,34,098 men voters. In addition, there are 40 voters coming under the 'third gender'.
The release said there is an increase by 1.35 per cent in the voters strength here with inclusion of 12,185 voters now.
Photo Identity cards (EPICs) for voters of 20 years and above enrolled during the special summary revision would be issued at polling booths from Jan 5 to 11. For voters aged 18 years and 19 years and who have been enrolled now would be issued EPIC cards on Jan 25 (National Voters Day) at the booths, it said.
