Delhi Congress today termed as "political stunt" the decision of BJP-ruled municipal corporations to waive the need for approval of building plans in plots measuring upto 100 square meters saying they don't have power to take such decision.
"Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has betrayed Delhi residents by making such false announcement as it doesn't have power to take such decisions," DPCC president Arvinder Singh said in a statement.
Congress leader Mukesh Sharma said that before taking such decisions, MCD has to seek amendments in Master Plan by Union Urban Development Ministry.
"This decision was taken ahead of Lok Sabha election, and it is a political stunt," Sharma said.
Earlier this month, MCD had announced that people won't need to get approval of construction plans in plots measuring up to 100 sqm in the national capital.
The owner of such plots would have to give an affidavit to the MCD that they would follow all the municipal rules and can carry out construction without any hindrance.
"The policy of passing building plans in Delhi could be done only in accordance to the Master Plan guidelines," he said.
"To cover up the wide-spread corruption prevailing in the MCD, BJP leaders are coming up with one or another announcement. Sanitation work has completely gone out of hands, and the unseasonal rains have completely exposed all the three MCDs," the DPPC president alleged.
Singh said he had asked all district presidents to organise agitations against the prevailing corruption in MCD and in the seven Parliamentary constituencies in Delhi and Congress MPs and workers will hold one weekly padayatra.
