Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar says the most effective and easiest way to stay fit is going for a walk regularly.
The "Baby" actor, along with his "Airlift" co-star Nimrat Kaur, flagged off the fourth edition of Max Bupa Walk for Health, here, yesterday.
"Walking is an intrinsic part of my fitness regime. I strongly believe that walking is a great way to stay fit and (I) encourage everyone to start walking, since it is one of the easiest and most effective ways to get healthier.
"I urge the whole of India to pledge to walk and take a step towards good health," Akshay said in a statement.
Nearly 10,000 families participated in the inaugural day of the initiative.
It will be a 33 day walkathon from Mumbai to Delhi, led by Indian Olympic Walkers like Manish Rawat, Sandeep Kumar, Gurmeet Singh and Khushbir Kaur, who will cover 1600 kilometer distance from Mumbai to Delhi on foot.
"Regular walking should be practiced by all ages as it not only keeps you fit and energized but also makes you look fabulous and in-shape all the time.
I'm a walking enthusiast and go for a regular morning walk to the beach. Walking is a great way for women to stay fit and I encourage everyone to start walking...," Nimrat said.
The walkathon will touch 15 cities including, Pune, Surat, Ahmedabad, Jaipur and end with a mega walk in Delhi on February 14.
