The accused, identified as Kalia Sahu alias Musha of Sri Ram Nagara street has sustained bullet injuries on his left leg, police said.
The incident took place yesterday at Khajuria over bridge under the Goshaninuagon police station limit.
A country-made gun and two live ammunitions were seized from him, while one of his accomplice managed to escape, said Prabhat Routray, sub divisional police officer, Berhampur.
Kalia was admitted at MKCG Medical College and Hospital here and his condition is stable, sources said.
Acting on a tip-off, a special police squad raided the area to nab the accused person. The police team chased him while Kalia along with one of his accomplices was going on a motorcycle.
When the police team came close of the accused, Kalia opened fire. In retaliation, police also fired back which hit him, police said.
At least ten different cases, including attempt to murder, dacoit, bombing, threatening and snatching cases were pending against him in different police stations in the town.
Police said he was wanted in a bombing incident on a wine shop and Goods-shed on August 4 last year.
The other two co-accused in the bombing case -- Muna Sahu and Radha Krushna Sahu -- were already arrested, police added.
