A notorious criminal, carrying a cash reward of Rs 25,000 on his head, was arrested following an encounter with police in Khatauli town in the district, police said today.
Anil Gujjar along with his accomplice Gyan Singh was nabbed yesterday when he was fleeing after firing gunshots outside a office of a transporter, said Circle Officer (CO) Rajive Kumar Singh.
In retaliatory firing, Gujjar was injured and police constable Vijay also sustained bullet injuries, the CO said.
The gangster was allegedly demanding extortion money of Rs 5 lakh from the transporter Devender Sharma.
Earlier,in 2009, Gujjar had also killed Sharma's brother Satish for not yielding to his extortion demands, police said.
Anil Gujjar was allegedly involved in two dozed cases of murder and extortion in Meerut and Muzaffarnagar districts, police added.
