Subhraj Mahato, who was sustained injury in the leg in the encounter, was rushed to M G M Hospital, where he was admitted, said Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Chandil), Vimal Kumar.
Kumar said Mahato and one of his accomplice Vikas Das have fired six rounds on police team, which retaliated with three found firing in self-defence.
Kumar said Mahato was active in Seraikela-Kharswan and Tamar and Bundu of Ranchi districts and was wanted in 13 criminal cases including murder, loot and dacoity.
Mahato opened six round fire on the police team, which chased him to arrest, forcing the police to retaliate in self-defence, the SDPO said adding Mahato sustained bullet injury and fell down.
Police arrested him immediately and rushed him to hospital.
Police also seized a loaded pistol, two live cartridges, empty cartridges from the spot and looted jewelleries, he said.
