Water Minister Kapil Mishra said partial production had already begun this morning. The worst-affected Wazirabad and Chandrawal treatment plants were functioning at 75 and 60 per cent capacities respectively by 12 noon.
"The ammonia level had risen to 3.8 ppm against the permissible limit of 0.2 ppm, in the raw water available at the plants. The water supply under the command areas of these plants will be fully restored by tomorrow morning," a DJB statement said.
The affected localities also include areas of New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC). North Delhi, north-west Delhi, central Delhi, and parts of west and south Delhi are the other affected areas.
DJB plants treat around 900 million gallons of water per day (MGD), of which Wazirabad and Chandrawal plants account for about 220 MGD.
