The Goa Forward Party (GFP), a key member of the BJP-led ruling coalition, today said it was not scared of going back to voters, but ruled out the chances of early Assembly elections in the coastal state.
The fledgling outfit fought the March 2017 state polls on the plank of "Goa, Goans and Goanness" and that will always remain the party's focal point, GFP president Vijai Sardesai told reporters here.
Responding to a query on the possibility of mid-term polls in Goa along with the Lok Sabha elections, Sardesai said Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has chalked out a five-year road-map for the state's development.
"Who is saying (early) elections are being held in Goa? Elections happen after due constitutional process. We are not contesting the Lok Sabha elections.
"We faced polls (last year) and after that we had (two) byelections," said Sardesai, who is also a minister.
"Simultaneous elections are (just) an idea. The Goa Forward is not scared to go back to people (and seek votes again)," he maintained.
"We will never move away from our resolve to focus on Goen, Goenkar and Goenkarponn (Goa, Goans, Goanness).
"Those who felt we should have gone with the Congress to form the government are the one who feel we have back- stabbed the voters," he said.
"Otherwise our focus is clear. We are walking the talk," the Town and Country Planning Minister said.
The GFP, which has three MLAs, is a key member of the BJP-led government which is also being supported by three legislators from the MGP and as many Independents.
