Media mogul Ekta Kapoor today said people tend to root for the heroes till the time they continue to please the masses.
The 42-year-old producer said audiences want to hold on to larger-than-life personalities they can look up to.
"We try to make the right kind of hero that we can idolise. We almost want them to be how we want them to be, not how they really are," Ekta told reporters here.
She was in the capital to promote the upcoming web- series, "Bose: Death/Alive", based on freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
Ekta said films that have been made till date on the founder of INA have tried to play safe, when it comes to depicting the persona of Netaji.
"There are some people in this world that are interesting in their own way and then there are some who don't toe the line ever, they never follow rules...
"When movies are made people play it safe and I cannot believe the fact that a man like Subhas Chandra Bose, who has lived a firebrand of a life... They try to make him subtle, sweet..." she said.
Featuring Rajkummar Rao in the title role, along with Patralekhaa, the series will stream on the digital platform ALTBalaji from November 20.
