Banking on mobile internet services, messaging service provider Webaroo aims a revenue of Rs 200 crore this year, about 33 per cent higher than that in last year.
"We send about 1.8 billion messages every month. Our revenues are about Rs 150 crore in 2013 and we plan to achieve more than Rs 200 crore in revenues in 2014 by focusing on enabling enterprises to use cloud communications," Webaroo Chief Operating Officer Ravi Sundararajan told PTI.
The company started with SMS messaging platform Gupshup for mobile advertisement and now going to launch its mobile internet based messaging platform for business houses. Webaroo claims that Gupshup had 37 per cent share in mobile messaging segment in 2013.
"We want to take forward this mobile engagement and make it a global product. Next month, we also plan to launch a smart mobile messenger like WhatsApp for enterprises to engage their sales force, retail channel, partners, employees," Sundararajan said.
He said mobile has emerged as an important platform specially in rural India for advertisements which were earlier limited to television or print media.
"For people in rural India, where power cuts are for 8-10 hours a day, mobile campaigns are very entertaining and drive a lot of engagement. If there is no power, they cannot even watch TV, so they just use their feature phones to hear an ad or song or talk in their language which also becomes a form of entertainment for them," Sundararajan said.
The company plans to expand business in overseas market and has identified countries in West Asia, Africa and South Asia for the same.
