"We have asked the HM management to pay one month's wage to workers within ten days. But they said it will not be possible given the precarious finance position. We decided to convene a tripartite soon," state Labour Minister Purnendu Basu told PTI.
Basu said the government might explore legal means which could be taken against the company management on wage-related issues.
The suspension of work declared by the HM management on May 24 at the company's Uttarpara plant might also be declared illegal, he said.
The plant was employing nearly 2500 workers and had been manufacturing the iconic Ambassador cars which had now stopped.
The management was represented by HM's acting CEO Moloy Chowdhury and another senior executive.
