West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi today condoled the death of eminent Hindi poet Gopal Das Niraj.
"The Governor expresses his deep grief on the sad demise of Padmashri and Padmabhushan Shri Gopal Das Niraj, the eminent poet and lyricist," a Raj Bhawan release said here.
Neeraj's family was by his side during his last hours.
The poet had also written songs for Bollywood films.
He was awarded Padma Shri in 1991 and Padma Bhushan in 2007.
"The Governor conveys his heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family and numerous admirers-readers of his literature," the release said.
