What Zakir did for Indian music, no one can : Oz musician

Six times in India an Australian musician Ben Walsh can't wait to come again to the country which for him has produced "one of the most inspiring music in the world."
Walsh who has toured the world says he is "in love with classical music and people of India."
"The main difference between Indian classical music and western orchestra is that Indian music is spontaneous. It is amazing at the level of skills and at the level of feeling," Walsh told PTI in an interview.
Having played in India several times and with some of the renowned Indian stars, Walsh is mesmerised with the legendary tabla player Ustad Zakir Hussain.

"I met Zakir Hussain once and he's a wonderful player. What he has done for Indian music, no one can do it," he said.
"My favourite Zakir moment is when he played after his father and legendary tabla player, Alla Rakha Khan, passed away. Zakir held a concert in Delhi in memory of his father. The spirit was so much so that he broke the tabla during the concert," Walsh said.

The Hindustani classical singer, Shubha Mudgal, also happens to be Walsh's inspiration.
"I once played drums with Shubha Mudgal and she's a very good friend of mine. She's excellent in what she does," he said.

Percussions have always been his passion, but the artist finds tabla very hard to play.
