Citing media reports, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said the Karnataka government had submitted in courts in matters related to cases involving Choksi that he was a "habitual offender" and "wilful defaulter" and could even flee the country. The Karnataka government had said he should be investigated by the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate for the truth to come out, Patra said. The BJP leader added that the state government, however, never approached the CBI, the ED or any central agency and let the local police probe the matter. "Should not Rahul Gandhi, Siddaramaiah and the Congress answer as to why this cover fire was provided to Mehul Choksi all these years," Patra said.
