Why no security given to IPS officer and his wife: HC to UP

The Allahabad High Court today asked Uttar Pradesh government to explain why security has been refused to an IPS officer and his wife Nutan Thakur, a social activist, by the district security committee, Lucknow.
The Lucknow bench of the HC directed the state counsel to seek instructions from the state government on the matter for placing its response on July 3.
A division bench of justice Shree Narain Shukla and justice Attau Rahman Masoodi passed the order on a writ petition filed by IPS officer Amitabh Thakur and another, challenging the refusal of security and prayed summoning the records of all cases where security had been provided allegedly improperly.

"As prayed, list on 3.7 2015 along with writ petition No.6509( MB) of 2013. In the mean time, learned Additional Advocate General who appears for the state shall seek complete instructions in the matter", the court ordered.
On behalf of the state government, Additional Advocate General Bulbul Godiyal contended that on an earlier petition of 2013 of the petitioner related to providing security to persons, the orders were passed and in the light of these orders, a government order was also issued for providing security to eligible persons.
In view of this GO, the petitioners were denied security as not being a fit case for the same. Hence, the petition was liable to be dismissed, she further contended.

The petitioners alleged that many IAS and IPS officers had been provided state security without their threat perception, in violation of GO dated May 9, 2014 and some 500 persons had been provided security in Lucknow merely on oral orders while their "genuine need" was being "ignored deliberately," they alleged.
