Samajwadi Party today quizzed the Uttar Pradesh government over the non-distribution of the ration cards made during the tenure of former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav.
"Why were the ration cards made during the reign of Akhilesh Yadav not distributed? Was it because of the fact that the then UP Chief Minister was Akhilesh Yadav?," said SP leader Anand Bhadauria during the Question Hour in the UP Assembly.
Responding to the question, UP's deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma, who is also the Leader of the House, said there was no point distributing the ration cards with Yadav's face on it when his government was no more in power.
"Every government has its kaaryashaili (style of working). Sometimes change is needed," said Sharma.
"When your (SP) government came to power, you replaced the cards made during the BSP regime, and put the photograph of Akhilesh Yadav. Now after the government has changed, what is the auchitya (relevance) of distributing a ration card, which bears the image of a former chief minister," he said.
Sharma also rubbished claims that the ration cards would be saffron-coloured, saying at present the government has only prepared the card's template.
"Nobody should have any doubts. Whatever, the government does, it will do in an impartial manner," he said.
