Wild tusker tramples six to death

A rampaging wild elephant has trampled six persons to death in two districts of Bihar and seriously injured four others today.
Four persons were killed in Sitamarhi district, while two were crushed by the pachyderm in Madhubani district. Among the injured, three are from Sitamarhi, while one is from Madhubani.
Expressing grief and deep concern over the incident, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased, and Rs 1 lakh each to the four injured. The compensation will be given from the CM Relief Fund.
"The district magistrates of Sitamarhi and Madhubani have been directed to pay the money without any delay to the kin of the six people who lost their lives. They have also been asked to arrange all facilities for the treatment of the injured," Kumar said.

The Chief Minister added that Principal Secretary and other senior officials of the environment and forests department, as well as, district administration officials are camping in the area affected by the rampaging elephant and coordinating to check the menace.
Among those trampled to death is a police driver who was trying to help villagers chase the elephant away from the agricultural fields.
Sitamarhi Superintendent of Police Hari Prasath S said the wild elephant entered Sitamarhi from Nepal yesterday and moved to adjoining Madhubani district today, and was roaming in Arer Police Station area there.
