Will personally monitor re-exam of Class XII chem paper: Min

Karnataka Primary and Secondary Education Minister Kimmane Rathnakar today said he will personally monitor re-examination of Class XII Chemistry paper after it was leaked yesterday for the second time in 10 days and will not remain in the post if it happens again.
"I myself will sit for the next 10 days, I will see to that it will not happen again. Suppose if it happens again I will not be there. I will not be the Minister for Education," he told reporters here.
"I will see that it (exam) is done properly," he said.
The Opposition has demanded Rathnakar's resignation.

Karnataka government, which came under flak from the public, students and the opposition for the question paper leak, has said the re-examination would be held on April 12.
Rathnakar had announced in the assembly yesterday that 40 officers and other staff in the Pre-University Department had been suspended and that the DGP CID has been asked to conduct a speedy probe into the leak of both March 21 exam and the re-examination question papers.

Meanwhile, protests continued for the second day today in front of the Pre-University Board here against the question paper leak.
Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and some students' outfits staged protests demanding justice, holding the state government responsible for "mismanagement" of the examination, affecting about 1.74 lakh students.

The March 21 examination was cancelled.
Hours before the rescheduled Chemistry exam was to begin yesterday, Department of Pre-University Education (DPUE) was alerted about the question paper leak at two locations in Karnataka.
