The Mumbai police today said that it will take another two days to block the fake website of Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) which was created purportedly to swindle money and personal information of the applicants.
The cyber cell of crime branch of Mumbai Police had registered an FIR against unknown persons on Sunday when MHADA officials came to know that a fake website with URL -- www.Mhadalottery2015.In -- was created by some unidentified miscreants.
Mumbai police spokesperson Dhanajay Kulkarni said, "I appeal to all applicants to apply for MHADA lottery at only -- https://lottery.Mhada.Gov.In -- which is the authentic website."
Nand Kishore More, Assistance Commissioner of Police (Cyber), said, "We have to follow certain procedures to close down a malicious or fraudulent websites and we are following same procedure in this case too."
The police will first move the local magistrate's court seeking to block the site and once the order is passed, it will be sent to the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) in Delhi, he added.
CERT will take final call whether to close down the website.
The fake website is showing all details and technicalities of the lottery.
The home page of the website appeared with a disclaimer reading, "This is just informational website to provide information about MHADA lottery 2015."
It further reads, "Do not consider this as official website of MHADA and do not leave any personal information here.
