"Congress is standing at a crucial juncture in the state. Never before has it been in such a situation where so many leaders, MLAs, elected representatives are leaving the party," Bhunia said and blamed state Congress chief Adhir Chowdhury and Leader of Opposition Abdul Mannan for it.
"It is because of their (Chowdhury and Mannan) arrogant attitude and Leftisation of the party that Congress workers are feeling disillusioned and are leaving it. Both of them have to take the responsibility and step down. They should be removed immediately," he added.
Chowdhury had accused Bhunia of working on the behalf of Trinamool Congress and said the party would not tolerate such indiscipline.
"The kind of words that Adhir had used yesterday shows his criminal mindset. I have given 46 years of my life to Congress. Adhir is not aware of Congress' culture and history. I will write to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and party vice-president Rahul Gandhi demanding the removal of Adhir and Mannan.
"I think Congress MP Abu Hasem Khan Choudhury should be made the president of state Congress and deputy leader of the party in the state Assembly Nepal Mahato should be made the leader of the Opposition," Bhunia said.
Congress wanted to give the PAC chairman's post to CPI(M), with which it had jointly contested the West Bengal Assembly elections earlier this year.
