Winterline Carnival, a four-day cultural fiesta showcasing art, culture, and life of Uttarakhand will be held in Mussoorie from December 27.
Named after Mussoorie's famous winterline, a unique natural phenomenon visible at sunset, the carnival is being organised by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Uttarakhand and the City Board, Mussoorie to create awareness about this unique feature of the "Queen of Hills."
A wide variety of musical programmes, performances and plays will be staged as part of the event to enthral the audiences, a release said.
Mussoorie's winterline can be viewed from the mid of October to the end of February when the setting sun drops below the horizon offering a breathtaking view as it becomes a mauve and grey coloured strip with yellow and orange coloured line at its upper tip.
Mussoorie gives a beautiful view of the snow covered Himalayas to the north and the sprawling Doon Valley towards the south.
The cultural extravaganza will begin with a formal inauguration ceremony and a cultural parade, followed by a play on Ghalib by actor Tom Alter, who is born and brought up in Mussoorie.
The evening will end with performances by renowned percussionist A Sivamani, sitarist Arvind Chary and pianist Stephan Devassy, who has played with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the release said.
A fashion show will also be hosted by the Ministry of Textiles with an aim to showcase Indian Handlooms, bringing together various well known designers and models.
In addition, various activities such as heritage walks, runs, cycling, mountain biking, rock climbing events will also feature during the event.
Visitors will also get a chance to meet Mussoorie-based reclusive author Ruskin Bond, the release said.
