The arrests were made yesterday and the accused were booked on the charges of kidnapping and assault, police said today.
The crime has its genesis in a case of fraud registered against Shahid Bagban (33) in Bangur Nagar Police Station by a few locals, who alleged that he refused to return the money borrowed from them.
Bagban was arrested on the basis of a complaint filed by a woman, Shama Abdul Rehman Baksh (51). He was later released on bail, police said.
The two then called four more people (who were also allegedly cheated by Bagban) and took him to Goregaon where they locked him in a room, police said.
The accused threatened and assaulted Bagban for failing to return their money. He was then put in a car and dropped at his house in the late hours the same day, but by then a missing person's complaint had been filed by Bagban's family members, they said.
