A day after a 55-year-old man allegedly killed his daughter with an iron rod, his wife, who was grievously injured in the attack, succumbed to injuries in the early hours today, the police said.
The man had attacked his wife and two daughters with an iron rod while they were sleeping. Police said he was depressed because of his inability to arrange money for his daughters' marriages. The incident was reported from south Delhi's Sangam Vihar area yesterday.
Nand Kishore, attacked his wife Vidyawati, two daughters Kavita (22) and Suman (24) with an iron rod.
At the time, Kishore's three sons were present in another room of the house, they added.
Kishore told police that he was under depression due to his poverty and inability to get his daughters married.
He then started hitting his wife and two daughters with an iron rod and hearing the cries of the women, one of his sons woke up and tried to stop him but he could not. The son also sustained minor injuries, police said.
Kavita was declared brought dead to the hospital while Vidyawati and Suman were undergoing treatment.
Vidyawati succumbed to injuries today at 2.45 am while her daughter Suman is in a critical condition. The accused has three sons and had three daughters.
