The victim was alone at home in Panki district yesterday when the accused Brajkishore raped her and then set her on fire, she had told her neighbours, they said.
The victim's husband Zulfiqar, who was working in the fields, rushed home after the neighours informed him about the incident. He found the victim partially burnt and immediately rushed her to the hospital, where she died last night, police said.
Her family alleged that police was initially reluctant to lodge an FIR, but when they complained to city SSP Shailabh Mathur, a case of rape and murder was registered against Brajkishore.
