A 60-year-old woman died when she tried to intervene during a brawl between her relatives and her husband in North Delhi's Civil Lines, police said today.
The deceased has been identified as Yashoda, a resident of Chandrawal where she lived with her husband and 34-year-old son Gopal.
The incident took place on Thursday when the victim's husband Narayan Dass returned home allegedly in an inebriated condition and abused his nephews Ishwar, Manoj and Veeru.
"The trio took offence in what Dass said and an argument ensued between them. When Yashoda and Gopal tried to intervene, she was allegedly pushed by her nephews following which she fell down and lost consciousness," said a police official.
Gopal made a call to the police control room and Yashoda was rushed to Aruna Asaf Ali Hospital but was declared brought dead. A case under section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code has been filed with Civil Lines police station but no arrests have been made so far.
"No arrest has been made so far as no external injury marks were established in the initial post-mortem. We are waiting for the post-mortem report for further action in the case," the official said.
