The body of Deepa Das (55) was recovered from a room in her house at Viveknagar in the Garfa Police Station area of Jadavpur late last night, an officer of Kolkata Police said.
The deceased's husband Kalyan Das (65), who was found absconding, was the suspected killer, he said.
"The door was locked from outside and apparently it seems to be a murder by strangulation. We have spoken to the son who claimed that his father had a quarrel with his mother in the morning yesterday. He is our prime suspect and is currently untraceable. Our investigation is still on," he said.
