Acting on a tip-off that the woman was supplying explosive materials to fishermen, a special police team raided her house at Tirupalakudi and seized 20 gelatine sticks, 15 detonators and fuse wires, police said.

The woman tried to escape by tying the entire quantity of explosives in her waist, but woman police personnel who frisked her found the explosives, they said.

In blast fishing, the fishermen use explosives to stun or kill schools of fish so that they can be netted easily.
