Woman injured in Meerut clash

A dispute between two communities turned violent here and also led to firing in which a woman was injured, police said today.
Five people have been taken into custody following the incident last night in the Lisadi gate area, police said, adding that a police contingent has been stationed at the site if the clash as a precautionary measure.
Although locals claimed that 12 persons were injured in the clash, police said that only two persons were hurt in the incident, including the woman, who is said to have received a bullet injury.
Polcie said the two injured have been admitted in hospital.

According to SP Omprakash, the incident occurred close to the place of worship of a community here. An altercation over the use of loudspeakers turned violent and locals started pelting stones at each other before police arrived at the scene and controlled the situation.
The SP said that five persons have been arrested for allegedly being involved in the violence, adding that an inquiry is on into the matter.
