The letter, allegedly sent by Badkau alias Raj Kumar who is lodged in district jail, Bareilly, was received at the office of judge Premkala Singh through a speed post, they said.
The letter, which bears the name of Badkau with district jail, Bareilly as the address, demands Rs 5 lakh which can be paid to the jail doctor Nemchandra, they said.
It also threatens that she would be killed in a bomb blast in her office if she failed to follow the instructions, they added.
Terming the matter as serious, the SP said Crime Branch has been asked to conduct the probe and Bareilly police and post office are also being contacted.
