The woman, around 35 years of age, was collecting rags from the garbage dumping centre at Naregaon, on the outskirts of Aurangabad city, when suddenly the explosion occurred at around 1 PM, said inspector Nirmala Pardesi of MIDC police station at CIDCO.
The woman died on the spot.
Police reached the site and cordoned off the area, she said.
When asked about the cause of the blast, the police officer said it was yet to be ascertained.
Samples were collected from the site and sent to a forensic lab for analysis, she said.
