A 45-year old woman was today mauled to death by a leopard which strayed into residential quarters of a tea estate in hilly Valparai near here, police said.
Kailasavathi was washing clothes this evening when the leopard suddenly appeared and attacked her at Kanchamala estate.
The animal grabbed her by the neck, resulting in her immediate death, police said.
As neighbours rushed out on hearing the commotion, the leopard ran away from there.
This is the second attack by a leopard in Valparai region since yesterday.
A woman was injured in an attack by a leopard last night in another estate. She is undergoing treatment at a government hospital.
Local residents demanded that the forest department take steps to trap the animals.
