The deceased, identified as Soni (35), was resident of Kunta area in Bijapur and was Tipagad area committee member, said Gadchiroli police.
She was carrying a cash reward of Rs 7 lakh on her head, a release issued by the office of Gadchiroli Superintendent of Police said.
Police were conducting an anti-naxal operation in Mouza Tavegaon jungle area of Dhanora tehsil when the patrol party was attacked by naxals, said the release.
An 8 MM rifle, 15 live cartridges and naxal literature have been recovered from the spot, it said.
