District Mahila Court Judge Thirunavukkarasu sentenced Chitradevi to life for murdering the 10-year old girl by drowning and 10 years RI trying to kill her eight-year-old brother.
Both sentences will run consecutively.
The prosecution case was that the woman and her husband used to have frequent quarrels over her demand that he grant all his properties to her child and not to his two children through his earlier marriage.
On October 15, 2013, Chitradevi took the two children to a nearby well and threw the girl in. She tried to do the same to the boy but he escaped and informed his father.
