Woman shot dead over dowry in Etah

A woman was shot dead allegedly by her in-laws here over dowry demands, police said today.
The woman identified as Geeta was shot dead yesterday in Nagla Dhani village after she failed to meet Rs 5 lakh dowry demand by her in-laws, they said.
According to the complaint lodged by the victim's father, her in-laws had demanded the additional amount and harassed and tortured for the same.
Geeta was shot dead yesterday following a heated argument, after which the family members left the house leaving the body behind, police said.
An FIR has been lodged against Geeta's husband and in-laws in this connection, Station Officer Vinod Kumar said, adding no arrest has been made so far.
In a separate incident, a newly-wed woman was set on fire by her husband and in-laws in Saraya Agahat village yesterday, police said.
Victim Neelam's husband and in-laws have been demanding a motorcycle and Rs one lakh cash. Yesterday, they poured kerosene and set her on fire, following which she received serious burn injuries.
Neelam is under treatment at Saifayi hospital, Station Officer Jagpal Singh said.
An FIR has been lodged against husband Sanjeev and his family members in this connection, he added.
