A woman-son duo was arrested for allegedly beating a relative to death and then cremating the body without informing police.
The deceased, Shivkumarsingh Babulal Rajput (35) and his brother's son Govinda Kishoresingh Rajput (25) had a dispute over a shop in Khadavali village under Kalyan taluka police station limits, inspector G S Andhale said.
During a quarrel in connection with the same issue on Wednesday, the two came to blows. At that time, Shivkumarsingh also allegedly beat up Govinda's mother Bharthi Kishoresingh Rajput (50), he said.
Later, the woman and her son beat up Shivkumar severely as a result of which he died, the police official said.
However, they informed the family members of the victim that he died after falling from a tree in an inebriated state and cremated the body.
Later, some locals informed police that the duo beat up the victim badly following which he died.
Based on the information, police inquired the matter and subsequently arrested the woman and her son last evening.
Offences were registered against the duo under sections 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence), 202, 176 and 177 rw 34 of the IPC.
Besides, an offence was also registered against the deceased under section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the IPC, police said.
