Describing them as equal partners of development, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today said women would have to play a significant role in taking forward welfare schemes of the state government.
"As mothers, women play an important role in their families. They must play similar role in building a developed society," Sonowal said at the 'Sahayika Samaroh' here.
He said that people in villages fail to make the best use of government schemes due to lack of awareness, and emphasised that women representatives must carry the message of the development programmes to the grass-root level.
The 'Sahayika Samaroh' was organised jointly by the state's Social Welfare Department and Assam State Social Welfare Board, in association with ONGC.
