Three women legislators of opposition NCP today raised concerns over the security at the MLA Hostel here, saying that two unidentified men rang the doorbell of their room two days ago.
Winter session of the Maharashtra legislature is underway in Nagpur at present.
NCP MLAs Jyoti Kalani and Dipika Chavan and Member of the Legislative Council Vidya Chavan, who are sharing a room at the Hostel, said two unidentified men rang the doorbell at midnight and again at 5 in the morning on December 19.
Speaking to reporters, Kalani said, "On Tuesday midnight, someone rang the doorbell. When I opened the door, there were two unknown men who said they wanted to talk to us. We asked them to leave and closed the door. But the doorbell rang again at five in the morning. We did not open the door this time."
She and the other two legislators would submit a complaint to the Assembly Speaker over the incident, Kalani said.
Vidya Chavan said some fifteen women legislators are living in the fist wing of the MLA Hostel, but there are no women police personnel posted there, nor are there any restrictions on visitors entering this part of the building.
Chavan also said that personal assistants of women legislators should not be allowed to occupy the rooms allotted to the legislators. The PAs always have a lot of visitors, she said.
Joint Commissioner of Police Shivaji Bodhke told PTI that security inside the Hostel comes under the purview of the Public Works Department, while police are deployed only at the two entry gates.
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi today said in the Assembly that a snake was found in his room yesterday. He demanded an inquiry in the matter.
