After declaring the DC comics superhero an honorary ambassador, UN ended the Wonder Woman campaign in less than two months following backlash over her attire.
Responding to the criticism, the 31-year-old star, who has played the popular fictional character in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice", said people should rather focus on important issues than creating unnecessary controversies, reported Entertainment Weekly.
"There are so many horrible things that are going on in the world, and this is what you're protesting, seriously? When people argue that Wonder Woman should 'cover up,' I don't quite get it. They say, 'If she's smart and strong, she can't also be sexy.' That's not fair. Why can't she be all of the above?," she said.
"I think people take it the wrong way when I say I'm a feminist. Feminism is not about burning bras and hating men. It's about gender equality. Whoever is not a feminist is a chauvinist," she said.
The actress will reprise her role of the superhero in Patty Jenkins' upcoming film "Wonder Woman" solo movie. It will hit the theatres on June 2 next year. Gadot's Wonder Woman will also be part of "Justice League".
