Work on Coastal Road project to start from May this year: CM

Work on the Coastal Road project between Nariman point in south Mumbai and suburban Kandivli will start in May this year, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today told the Legislative Council.

In a written reply to a query by Sanjay Dutt (Congress) over the issue, Fadnavis stated all the permissions from the Environment ministry have been received and that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is in the last stage of the tender process.

Dutt had sought to know if the state government had received permissions from the Environment ministry.

The Congress MLC also sought to know the reasons for the delay in starting the project.

The Coastal Road is a proposed 29.2-km freeway that would run along Mumbai's western coastline connecting Marine Lines in the south to Kandivli in the north.

The chief minister stated that the project would be completed in two phases - Princess Street to Worli and Bandra to Kandivali.

"The BMC's tendering process is in the last stage and the work is proposed to be started in May this year," he said.
