Working with industry in technology transfer: NIOT

National Institute of Ocean Technology under the Union Ministry of Earth Sciences is working with the industry to transfer specific technologies to them, a top official said today.
"We are working with the industry to transfer technologies to them," Director of National Institute of Ocean Technology, Satheesh C Shenoi told PTI.
On technologies developed by NIOT and specifics of know-how that will be transferred, he said, "for example I can cite the buoys that measure (among other things) ocean currents and the low-cost desalination technology developed and used by us in Lakshwadweep islands."
Earlier, he participated in a review meeting chaired by Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Y S Choudhary here at the NIOT today.
"We are working with the industry, and in the process of transferring technology to them," he said replying to another question and indicated process of transfer of buoy technology to companies including a Hyderabad-based entity.
"Such transfers are considering overall national interest and it will also facilitate mass production," he added.
On the deliberations, he said, "it was a general review, the Union Minister said collaboration should be made with industry wherever needed."
The industry could also be involved even during the development of specific technologies and it may also be transferred to the industry at a later stage, he said, quoting Choudhary as saying.
"Such process of technology transfer will be in conformity to norms and government rules, the government will be getting royalty for transferring the technology," the NIOT chief said.
