Worship places increased by 53% in J&K in decade: Census

Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed a phenomenal increase in the number of places of worship compared to other sectors during the last decade as per the census data released today.
The places of worship have increased by 53.43 per cent between 2001 to 2011 in Jammu and Kashmir, statistical data, released by Department of Census Operation, J&K, today said.
The number of worship places have increased by 17,110 from 32,025 in 2001 to 49,135 in 2011, it said.
Listing out the data for the better formulation of policies by the state government, Joint Director, Census Operation Department C S Sapru said, "There has been a phenomenal increase in the number of worship places in the state as compared to those sectors including industrial and tourism sectors which provides jobs to unemployed youth."
The tourism sector, which has picked pace during the last decade after being hit by militancy, has seen an increase of 21.91 per cent in hotels, lodges and guest houses, he said.
The number of hotels, lodges and guest houses increased by 1,343 from 6,130 in 2001 to 7,473 in 2011.
The industrial sector in Jammu and Kashmir saw a rise of mere 10.51 per cent in the number of factories, workshops and worksheds which increased from 29,783 in 2001 to 32,913 in 2011, while shops and offices jumped 46.35 per cent from 2,31,779 in 2001 to 3,39,197 in 2011, the census data said.
