WW soldier's memorial name spelling corrected after a century

Just imagine a century to correct a small spelling error.
It took British authorities 97 years to correct First World War soldier's memorial name spelling error.
Parish councillors in Shepreth, Cambridgeshire, agreed to have the spelling of Private George Samuel's name changed from 'Samuels' to 'Samuel' on a village memorial earlier this year.
Alison Corfield said the mis-spelling of her great uncle's name - who passed away in 1916 at the age of 20 - had caused "great distress" to his parents after the 1914-18 conflict ended.
Corfield, according the British newspaper Daily Mirror, claimed that authorities had refused to correct the mistake after the memorial was erected and the soldier's parents had tried to hide the extra letter by covering it with mud.

Corfield added that Private Samuel was a member of the London Regiment and died in France on September 30, 1916.
Shepreth Parish Council has said it will pay for the work carried out on the memorial by a stonemason.
