'The Whiffenpoofs of Yale', a cappella group, singing without any instrumental music and one of the world's oldest and best-known collegiate will be featured in the next edition of Delhi based group Friends of Music here.
"Whiffs" began as a senior quartet that used to meet for weekly concerts and have gone on to become one of Yale's most celebrated traditions. The collegiate which was founded in 1909, selects 14 senior men from Yale University every year to be in the Whiffenpoofs.
Their repertoire features a diverse selection of songs ranging from traditional Yale songs to original compositions to hits from every decade.
The group's trademark song, 'The Whiffenpoof Song' has in the past garnered much fame with musical stars like Rudy Vallee, Bing Crosby, Elvis Presley, Louis Armstrong, and countless others lending their voice to it in separate hit versions.
Opening the stage for them on July 20 are Delhi-based dynamic duo 'Adi & Suhail', featuring Aditya Balani and Suhail Yusuf Khan whose musical aesthetic is rooted in simple yet powerful songwriting, transcending boundaries with experimental and ever evolving sound.
They turned heads when they were featured on Coke Studio@MTV season 3 with popular numbers like Qalandar, Laage Re and Zindagi. The duo have recently released their record 'Culture Code Landscape' in May 2014.
They have been playing and writing music together for over a decade, and have performed all over the world and their collaborative work has been featured in bands like Advaita, Incognito, Artistes Unlimited, Suhail Yusuf Khan Collective, and the Aditya Balani Group.
FOM, which is a Teamwork initiative has since 1994 supported budding artists like Indian Ocean, Parikrama, Mrigya, Orange Street, Rabi Shergill, Valentine Shipley and many more bands that are household names today.
The club has also created a widespread platform for indigenous rock, indie and traditional music.
