The new centre, which is located at Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu, has been established to ensure optimum utilisation of resources and focus on enhancing of the capability and capacity.
The other R&D centre is located at Surajpur (Uttar Pradesh).
"An investment of Rs 66 crore has been made to set up the center and it is part of the Rs 1,500 crore investment that Yamaha has already committed to 'Make in India' by 2018," Yamaha Motor Research & Development India (YMRI) said in a statement today.
It is the fifth overseas R&D headquarters for Yamaha Motor Group following Italy, Taiwan, China, and Thailand.
"The objective of the new centre is to develop models for India and eventually, the global market," YMRI Managing Director Yasuo Ishihara said.
