Yamuna rejuevation to be carried out under special plan: Uma

Union Minister Uma Bharti today said the rejuvenation of Yamuna would also be carried out under a special work plan like the Ganga river.
For this, a workplan is being prepared by a special group, comprising Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, the states where Yamuna is most polluted, said Bharti, who was visiting Vrindavan on the occasion of Janmashtami.
Apart from tackling the problem of pollution in Yamuna, a a proposal to provide a minimum water level in the river is also under consideration, the Minister for Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation said.
She said the orders given by National Green Tribunal would also be followed in this regard and efforts would be made in collaboration with the state governments to prevent encroachments and pollution in the river.

Bharti also said the effluent and sewage treatment plants set up to treat household and industrial waste in the three states are not working properly and the government would ensure that they are dealt with strictly.
