Actor Yashpal Sharma has left light-hearted TV show "Neeli Chatri Waale" after his contract ended.
Sharma, 48, who has an equally successful career in Bollywood with his performance-oriented roles in "Gangaajal", "Lagaan" and "Manjunath", said he has mixed feelings on leaving the Zee TV show.
"I had signed up for a certain number of episodes when we started off and have completed my end of the contract. I am happy to have explored working in the television space but somewhere within, I have begun to miss films and theatre and would like to focus on that," Sharma, who played protagonist on the slice-of-life show, said in a statement.
"Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai" star Rajesh Kumar is now stepping into the shoes of Sharma.
"It is a challenge for me to step into veteran actor Yashpal Sharma's shoes. The show, with its differentiated theme of man in conversation with God has struck a chord with the audience. I hope that I will be able to do complete justice with my new role and will not disappoint mine and Yashpal ji's fans," Rajesh, 39, said.
"Neeli Chatri Waale" is loosely based on Akshay Kumar-starrer satirical comedy-drama "OMG- Oh My God".
