"The UP government has set a target of 50 lakh metric tonne for the purchase of paddy, so that farmers do not have to sell their produce at a low rate," UP BJP spokesperson Shalabh Mani Tripathi said in a statement.
So far the Adityanath government has spent Rs 67,000 crore on farmers in the form of wheat purchase, crop loan redemption and payment of dues to sugarcane farmers, he said.
Paddy purchase in 31 districts of western UP will begin from October 21 and will continue till January 31, 2018. In the 41 districts of eastern UP, paddy purchase will begin on November 1 and will continue till February 28, he said.
